- You get two private cards. Five shared cards come out in stages: the flop (3), turn (1) and river (1). Best five-card hand wins; see the hand rankings below.
- On your turn: fold (give up), check (pass, if there's no bet), call (match the bet) or raise. Keys: F C R.
- Keep the coach on. It shows your equityEquity. Your share of the pot if all cards were dealt out with no more betting: the % of the time you'd win (ties split). Glossary & hand rankings
- Equity
- Your share of the pot if all cards were dealt out with no more betting: the % of the time you'd win (ties split). Here it is measured against random hands, so strong betting from opponents usually means your real equity is lower.
- Pot odds
- The price of a call: call ÷ (pot + call). Calling 50 into a 150 pot costs 50 ÷ 200 = 25%, so you need to win at least 25% of the time to break even.
- ICM
- Independent Chip Model. In a sit-and-go you are paid by finishing place, not chips, so chips you might lose are worth more than chips you might win. That makes risky calls worse, especially near the money.
- C-bet
- Continuation bet: the player who raised before the flop bets again on the flop, whatever it brings. It often wins because most flops miss most hands.
- Push/fold
- With about 10–15 big blinds or fewer, small raises waste chips. The simplest strong strategy is to go all-in (push) or fold. Apex uses solved push/fold charts here.
- Big blind (BB)
- The larger forced bet. Stacks are often counted in big blinds: 2,000 chips at 10/20 blinds is 100 BB.
- Position
- Acting after your opponents. The button (D) acts last after the flop, which is a big edge: you see what others do first.
- Minimum raise
- A raise must be at least as big as the last bet or raise. An all-in for less is allowed but doesn't let players who already acted re-raise.
- Side pot
- When a player is all-in, extra bets between the others go to a side pot the all-in player can't win.
- Fold equity
- The extra value of betting because opponents sometimes fold. A bluff works when they fold often enough.
